State Rep. Joe Tate
Detroit State Rep. Joe Tate, who served as House Speaker when the Democrats held the majority, has announced that he will join the U.S. Senate race.
“I’m running for the U.S. Senate because I want to continue to keep that promise that my grandparents came to Michigan for,” he told the Associated Press. His grandparents migrated from Alabama.
Tate joins the Democratic race alongside U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens; state Sen. Mallory McMorrow; and Abdul El-Sayed, the former director of Wayne County's Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services. Republican Mike Rogers is also running.
