NEW YORK (WBNG) -- On May 8, NY Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Chuck Schumer questioned the lack of transparency at the World Trade Center Health Program, or the WTCHP.
In February, the Trump administration slashed the workforce of the WTCHP as part of DOGE’s cuts to the federal health system.
In response, Schumer and Gillibrand, together with a bipartisan group of House members, called on the administration to reverse the cuts. The Trump administration relented and rehired WTCHP staff.
Due to re-firing and staffing issues, including the firing of the WTCHP Administrator, Dr. John Howard, who was falsely rehired, the health program was having difficulties running. The disruptions led to cancer treatment being denied, enrollments for as many as 800 9/11 responders and survivors h
