Several hundred job cuts menace the wobbly Bay Area economy in fresh waves of layoffs for workers in the tech, biotech, energy and school sectors, according to official state filings.

Microsoft, Chevron, 10x Genomics, 23andMe, NetApp, NGM Biopharmaceuticals, Pliant Therapeutics and Downtown College Prep are among the employers that have decided to slash jobs in the Bay Area recently, a post by the state Employment Development Department shows.

All told, the eight employers have notified the state labor agency about their decision to slash 769 jobs in the Bay Area, according to information the state EDD has posted on its site.

The layoff disclosures arrive on the heels of big job losses for the Bay Area over the early months of 2025, the state EDD has reported.
