BEAUMONT, Texas — History was made for a Southeast Texas baseball program.

For the first time in the program's existence, the Brookeland Wildcats baseball team is headed to the Regional Finals round after sweeping the Chester Yellowjackets at Vincent-Beck Stadium , home of the Lamar Cardinals.

Game one of the series was electrifying and showcased the offensive prowess of both teams as the Wildcats claimed the 12-11 victory in eight innings of play.

Starting pitcher Zach Beckett (#11) went out on Friday night and dominated the Yellowjackets after a startling first inning where he escaped a bases-loaded jam.

Beckett ended up going 6.1 innings while only allowing five hits with zero runs allowed, striking out seven Chester batters.
