FLINT, MI – After a 3-vote margin separated winning candidates in the special Flint City Council primary election, LaShawn Johnson has officially requested a recount.

Johnson received 162 votes in the May 6 primary for the Third Ward council seat, falling three short of Beverly Biggs-Leavy and A.C. Dumas, who both received 165 votes, according to results from the Genesee County Clerk’s Office.

Johnson filed official papers to request the recount on Friday, May 16, Genesee County County Clerk-Register Domonique Clemons confirmed with MLive-The Flint Journal.

She could not officially request the recount until the vote totals were certified, which took place this week.
