A man is in custody after allegedly fleeing sheriff’s deputies and crashing a stolen vehicle with narcotics in Platte County Tuesday.
Just before 11:30 a.m., a Platte County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted a traffic stop for improper registration on MO 45 Highway and Northwest Klamm Road. The man driving the vehicle allegedly fled, and a pursuit was initiated, said Capt. Jeffrey Shanks, a sheriff’s office spokesman.
The suspect drove east toward Interstate 29, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, Shanks said in a news release. The driver then lost control and crashed near North Chatham Avenue.
After crashing, the man fled the scene on foot, Shanks said. Witnesses told law enforcement they saw the man throw a firearm under another vehicle before he ran, the sheriff’s office said
