A former Atlantic City councilman who allegedly threatened a witness during a court hearing at the Atlantic County civil courthouse last June was indicted by a grand jury last month, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Muhammad Zia, 51, is charged with witness tampering and terroristic threats. He's scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Zia was attending the second day of a trial June 19 to determine whether he lived in the resort prior to the 2023 election. During a break in the proceeding, Zia allegedly told the witness “Don’t f--- with me, I will f--- you up" in the hallway outside the courtroom, the Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday in a news release.
