FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A Florence County sheriff's deputy died and one other person was hospitalized after a crash Tuesday afternoon on Olanta Highway, the sheriff's office said.

It happened at about 4:30 p.m. near Blackwells Farm Road, according to the sheriff's office. Both the deputy, identified as Nate Ansay, and the other driver were transported to an area hospital, but the other person's condition was not immediately available.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the deputy was driving a 2023 Ford SUV north on Olanta Highway and a 2008 GMC SUV was driving south when the two cars collided.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Ansay had worked with the Florence County Sheriff's Office since Oct. 30, 2023, according to training records from the South Car
