VINELAND — City officials swore in new police Chief Steve Triantos and deputy Chief Greg Pacitto during a ceremony Wednesday morning in front of a packed crowd in City Council chambers.

“This is the future of the Vineland Police Department,” said Edwin Alicea, the city’s public safety director. “This leadership is going to take us into the next generation of police officers. For these two to make it to where they are today has been a heck of a challenge. They’ve been through a lot, and now they get the opportunity to lead others into the future of law enforcement.”

Triantos had been serving as acting chief since Pedro Casiano was suspended after being charged with simple assault following a domestic incident in October. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in March and
