A 62-year-old Vineland man was convicted of assault by auto and driving while intoxicated in a motor vehicle accident at North Delsea Drive and Almond Road in September 2019, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Billy Gerald’s vehicle turned left and struck the victim’s vehicle Sept. 3, 2019.

The victim complained of back, nose and right hand pain due to the airbag deploying, the Prosecutor's Office said in a news release.

Officers spoke to Gerald, who said he was struck as he turned. There was an odor of alcohol on Gerald’s breath, and inside his vehicle was a yellow liquid believed to be alcohol on the passenger seat, the Prosecutor's Office said. When police initially asked Gerald about drinking, he denied it, but he later admitted it.
