MONTROSE, MI -- Former Montrose City Manager Barbara Valentine has been fired by the City Council , but says she has no hard feelings toward the people she came to know during less than five months on the job.

The council voted 5-2 to terminate the former city manager during a special meeting on Tuesday, May 20, according to Valentine and Mayor Thomas J. Banks.

“When you’re in government, your position changes ... You have to be ready for that,” Valentine said. “If you can’t roll with the punches, this is not the job for you.”

Banks wrote about the decision to part ways in a Facebook post after Tuesday’s meeting, calling the situation “probably the least favorite part of my service as mayor.”
