A private plane crashed in San Diego in the early morning of Thursday, May 22, igniting fires in military housing and causing an unknown number of fatalities.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a post on X that a Cessna 550 crashed near the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport at around 3:45 a.m. The FAA said the information is “preliminary and subject to change.”
The number of people on board is unknown at this time, according to the FAA. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said they’re working with the FAA to determine how many people were on the plane.
The plane crashed in Tierrasanta, a community located about 10 miles northeast of downtown San Diego, USA TODAY reported .
Crews arrived on scene to fine multiple houses and cars on fire, said Dan Eddy with the San D
