A woman was shot early Thursday morning outside the CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. and was confirmed by authorities as a non-fatal shooting. Security guards were involved in the incident, according to NBC News, which cited a source familiar with the situation.
The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) responded to the scene to assist CIA police with traffic control. In a statement, the FCPD noted, "Today, around 4:00 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 900 block of Dolley Madison Blvd in McLean to assist CIA Police with traffic control following a non-fatal shooting on CIA property. FCPD officers are currently in the area providing traffic support while the CIA conducts its investigation. There are no road closures at this time."
The CIA also issued a statement on social media platform X, indicating that the front gate to the agency's headquarters was closed and advising employees to use alternate routes. The agency has not provided details regarding any injuries sustained by security personnel or the suspect involved in the shooting.
Authorities have not established a motive for the incident. The CIA stated, "There was a security incident that law enforcement responded to outside CIA Headquarters. Additional details will be made available as appropriate."
Importantly, there is no known connection between this shooting and a separate incident that occurred the previous night, which involved the fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy workers in Washington, D.C. This situation is still developing, and updates are expected as the investigation continues.
