FLINT, MI -- A hand recount of more than 500 ballots from a special primary election has produced the same result as a machine count from two weeks ago in the race to represent Flint’s 3rd Ward on the City Council.
Candidates Beverly Biggs-Leavy and A.C. Dumas remained the two top vote-getters after the recount on Thursday, May 22 -- each receiving 165 votes.
The two will advance to an Aug. 6 special general election with the winner earning the right to complete the term of the late Quincy Murphy.
Candidate LaShawn Johnson, who requested the recount, finished with 162 votes. A fourth candidate -- Richard Jones -- received 21 votes.
