BRIGHTON, Colo. — For 96 years, Deborah Palizzi’s family has owned and operated a farm that has produced corn, peaches and many other foods for the surrounding community, however something else is about to appear on her land that is unwanted.

The Parkland Metropolitan District, a quasi-government agency, has won the rights to obtain a portion of the Palizzi Farm to install a drainage pipe. The pipe will serve a private development of homes next to the farmland.

“They’re changing historical flow, which is unbelievable that they can get by with that. And so there's just a lot of unknowns,” said Palizzi.

She told 9NEWS she worries the drainage pipe will have an adverse effect on the farmland.
