ATLANTA — The federal measure Republicans call the ‘big beautiful bill’ includes cuts to programs used by more than one million Georgians. It would also add work requirements for Medicaid and SNAP benefits.

"That would affect family members of mine absolutely. For sure," said Jada Thomas of Clayton County. She says her mother and brother use SNAP – the federal program that subsidizes purchases of food.

"And their benefits have been cut. Recently, and for no reason. Just cut. And they said it was because of their income but the income hasn’t changed," Thomas said.

The federal bureaucracy has frustrated them. Now, the U.S. House has passed a bill that would add work requirements to some beneficiaries.

And Thomas is not happy.
