TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WISH) — Competitive eater Joey Chestnut on Memorial Day broke his own world record by consuming over 36 24-ounce bags of popcorn in just 8 minutes at the Rural King store in Terre Haute.
The Westfield resident’s previous record stood at 32 bags, which he surpassed during the event held on Monday. The competition was part of a Memorial Day celebration at Rural King, known for its free popcorn giveaways. Hundreds of people gathered in the store’s parking lot for the event, based on a Facebook Live video of the event.
“This is actually a record I set a couple years ago, and Rural King invited me back for Memorial Day because they’re known for their awesome popcorn,” Chestnut shared in an interview with The Action Network.
