CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Detectives are investigating after a man was fatally struck while riding a lawn mower at night in northwest Charlotte.

Police responded to reports of an accident with injuries near the 5700 block of Freedom Drive, on May 20 around 9 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive man, 63-year-old Dexter Leon Monk, lying in the middle of the road with life-threatening injuries and a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country with damage to the front of the vehicle. The driver, 58-year-old Kevin David, was stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Medic responded and pronounced Monk dead at the scene.

Police say David was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
