CINCINNATI (WKRC) — A local initiative aimed at reducing lung cancer complications has reached a significant milestone. Dr. Mike Gieske of Saint Elizabeth Healthcare has long been dedicated to saving lives from lung cancer through the White Ribbon Project, which seeks to change the stigma often associated with the disease.
Dr. Gieske explained that part of the stigma stems from the association of lung cancer with smoking. However, he noted that "as many as one in five lung cancers are in people who have never smoked." He emphasized the importance of early detection, stating that a simple CT scan, which takes just a few minutes, can find lung cancer early.
