Not lost among the higher-profile items heard by the Chandler City Council at its nearly four-hour May 22 regular meeting was a measure that affects downtown businesses.
Council unanimously approved a resolution that authorizes a fiscal 2026 annual tax assessment for properties within the Downtown Chandler Enhanced Municipal Services District.
Assessments in the district are based on three factors, a staff report states. One-third of the assessment is a fraction of assessed value, one-third from building square footage and a final one-third from land square footage.
Most properties are assessed at the same rate, the report states. The exceptions are buildings along the historic square, which are assessed double the building square footage rate.
