KONA, Hawaii (Island News) -- A Puna man is in custody for stealing a car in Kona over the weekend, facing more than a dozen charges for the armed robbery.

Walter Gomes, 47, was arrested for stealing a Toyota Corolla from Ala Onaona Street on Saturday, May 24 and revealed his gun to the owner. The next day, he was arrested after the stolen car was found in the Parker Ranch Center parking lot.

Gomes was charged with armed robbery, terroristic threatening and firearms offenses. He appeared in Kona District Court on Tuesday morning, May 27. His bail was set at $293,000 and he is scheduled to return for a preliminary hearing on May 28.

The defendant is being tried for the following offenses:

First-degree robbery

First-degree theft (theft of a motor vehicle)
