BURIEN, Wash. — U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal on Tuesday sharply criticized former President Donald Trump’s budget reconciliation plan, calling it a “big, beautiful betrayal” during a town hall meeting at Highline High School.
“You might have seen that Republicans passed their big, beautiful betrayal of the working class and poor people across the country,” Jayapal told the audience. “This bill is literally the largest transfer of wealth from poor and working people to the wealthiest millionaires and billionaires.”
The legislation, referred to by some in the GOP as the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” narrowly passed the House last week in a 215-214 vote. The Senate is expected to take up the bill later this summer.
