PASADENA, Texas — A Houston-area family says their two-year dream of surprising their son with his first car was shattered Saturday morning when thieves broke into their vehicle and stole nearly $9,000 in cash they had just withdrawn from a bank.
The Vázquez family had spent Saturday morning at a Wells Fargo on Spencer Highway, withdrawing the money they planned to use to purchase a car for their son that same day. After making a quick stop for tacos before heading to a dealership, they discovered their vehicle had been broken into and the cash, hidden in the glove box, was gone.
"We saw the video in less than 60 seconds. he was in and out of the car," said Cesar Vázquez, describing surveillance footage that captured the theft.
The family believes they were victims of "jugging," a crime
