GEORGIA, USA — We’re nearly six months into 2025, but a major issue we've been reporting on since last fall remains unresolved.
Numbers from the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) show just how big the crisis has grown.
Through May 21, DHS received 29,703 reports of stolen SNAP benefits—an average of over 80 cases a day statewide. Total losses this year alone amount to $23,190,670.24.
Since October, dozens of Georgians have contacted 13WMAZ, saying their SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits were stolen , with little to no help from the state.
“Georgia is not protecting their citizens. It seemed like the governor's office isn't addressing it. The first thing they said is, 'That's your loss. We can't get you nothing back,’” resident Leroy Ban
