PHOENIX — State Treasurer Kimberly Yee announced that she will be trying to primary State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne in the upcoming 2026 election.
The announcement comes Wednesday morning as Arizona's far-right grow increasingly frustrated with Horne's recent crackdowns on questionable Empowerment Scholarship Accounts purchases.
"Arizonans want their individual freedoms safeguarded," Yee said. "As superintendent I will be a statewide advocate [...] to build a stronger and higher achieving school system in Arizona."
Yee said that she will be partnering with parents to "protect and preserve educational opportunities for all" as she works to strengthen school choice options.
Horne's move to rein in vouchers could potentially cost him his job.
