NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Lawmakers are responding to FEMA’s decision to scale back its support following Hurricane Helene. FEMA recently denied an appeal to extend its cost-sharing program for Hurricane Helene recovery.

Republican Congressman Chuck Edwards represents Asheville.

In a statement to WFMY News 2, he said: "I’m pleased that President Trump has provided North Carolina with a 90 percent cost share, 15 percent above the typical federal contribution, in addition to giving us a more nimble and responsive FEMA. I’m also maintaining contact with senior officials in the White House to keep the focus on our recovery."

Meanwhile, several Democratic leaders had a different reaction.
