(WFSB) - Former Connecticut Gov. John Rowland received a pardon from President Donald Trump.

Rowland, who was governor from 1995 to 2004, released a statement to Channel 3.

“I am very humbled and deeply appreciative,” he said. “I have been blessed with a wonderful family and friends that have been through a great deal over the years. This is a wonderful final resolution.”

Rowland, a Republican, resigned less than halfway through his third term as governor in 2004 after an investigation was opened into federal corruption.

He served 10 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to accepting gifts and favors from state contractors.

Ten years later, he was put on trial for campaign fraud and was sentenced to 30 months in prison. He was released in 2018.
