BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) — After Monday, South Carolina shrimp will be available fresh off the boat again.
South Carolina's commercial shrimp trawling season will open in all legal state waters at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) announced.
The opening date is set by SCDNR officials based on the conditions of shrimp after opening provisional areas in the state's outer waters. They sample and study white shrimp frequency in late spring to check if a majority of female white shrimp have spawned at least once.
If the season is opened too soon, and trawlers catch too many female shrimps who haven't spawned yet, it could affect the size of the fall white shrimp crop.
