LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - A facility that has been under fire for over a year after allegations of elder abuse has been forced to close its doors for operating without a valid license.

The Mississippi Department of Health closed Cottonwood Manor Assisted Living on Wednesday, May 21. According to a tip sent to WDAM, residents were relocated to other facilities.

In March of 2024, two Cottonwood employees were arrested and charged with elderly abuse after complaints. Eleanor Collins, who purchased Cottonwood Manor Assisted Living in January, was the owner at the time.

WDAM interviewed her shortly after this transpired. We reached out for comment regarding the closure and received this message from Collins.
