(Guadalupe County) — Lightning over the Memorial Day weekend is being blamed for a pair of house fires in northern Guadalupe County.

Patrick Pinder, the Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator and fire marshal, says the most recent fire was reported at 11 p.m. Monday. He says lightning reportedly struck the roof of the home located in the 300 block of Oak Crossing.

“What it appears is the lighting struck the home, and the residents were unaware of the fire at the time, and it took about 30 to 45 minutes after the lighting strike before they were any kinds of signs of fire, so the resident went up to the second floor and heard rain coming through the ceiling.
