MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEVV) — A Madisonville mom is in jail after police say her 6-year-old child was found walking down the sidewalk alone along Main Street.

Officers responded to the Sunoco on South Main Street around 10:30 a.m. Thursday after someone called 911 and reported finding a 6-year-old child walking down the sidewalk alone.

According to MPD, the 911 caller said the 6-year-old had told them his parents were at work, and asked them to walk him to his grandmother's home.

Police spoke with the child, who told them he had left his house and attempted to walk to his grandmothers, and that nobody was home with him.

Officers say the child's home was nearby down South Main Street, and that they made contact with 21-year-old Brittany Emerson there.
