ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- During the New York State 2024 to 2025 deer hunting season, the Department of Environmental Conservation reports that an estimated 223,304 deer were harvested.
The state saw a 9% increase in antlered bucks and a 3% increase, amounting to 122,427 antlered bucks and 100,877 antlerless deer. Although increases were seen in the types of deer this year, the harvest fell below the five-year average.
"New York hunters had another safe and productive hunting season, providing a sustainable food source for themselves and their families and helping DEC manage the state’s deer herd," DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton said. "By engaging in safe and ethical hunting practices and reporting their harvest, hunters continued the tradition of being conservation stewards."
