An individual wanted in connection with a 2023 homicide in Santa Maria was arrested this week in Bakersfield, according to Santa Maria Police.

The incident occurred on Oct. 21, 2023, when a little after 12:30 a.m., SMPD officers responded to the 1000 block of North School Street for a reported shooting and located a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.

There were also three other victims with non life-threatening gunshot wounds. Ultimately, the initial victim died as a result of his injuries, and the investigation has remained active.

On Wednesday, detectives requested the assistance of the Kern County Sheriff's Department in arresting the individual on an outstanding homicide warrant related to the 2023 incident.
