SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Nurses in state agencies became the first group of workers on Friday to receive layoff notices warning of a potential government shutdown on July 1, as lawmakers continue negotiations over the final details of the next two-year budget.
The Minnesota Nurses Association, which represents hundreds of people employed by agencies like the Department of Health and the Department of Corrections, confirmed that their members "are receiving the first round of layoff notices today, marking the beginning of widespread notices going out to state workers over the coming week."
