CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Authorities say a man was shot and now faces multiple charges after allegedly shooting a K-9 and firing at deputies in Calhoun County.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said 45-year-old Jermaine Halmon is accused of opening fire at two deputies multiple times Thursday night after crashing his car on Church Camp Road in Cameron.

Deputies returned fire, resulting in Halmon being shot. As of Friday night, the sheriff’s office said Halmon was being evaluated at MUSC in Charleston for his injuries. No further details about his condition were released.

Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said one of the bullets Halmon fired struck CCSO K-9 officer Angus, who was being treated by a veterinarian.
