AUSTIN, Texas — Austin-based auto manufacturer Tesla could soon launch its robotaxi service in Austin.
According to a report from Bloomberg , the Elon Musk-owned company could launch the service as soon as June 12. Musk said the company had already started testing self-driving cars around the city this week.
The robotaxis would look just like the Tesla's Model-Y cars.
In recent years, self-driving and autonomous vehicles have been increasingly more common on Austin roads. Waymo – which is owned by Alphabet, Inc., Google's parent company – first began testing its self-driving cars in Austin in 2015 and officially launched earlier this year .
In 2023, Cruise, a General Motors autonomous vehicle company, tried out its driverless fleet in Austin but had to pump the brakes after crashes
