HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Columbia University used a four-run inning to send the University of Southern Mississippi’s starting pitcher to the showers and then put away the top-seeded Golden Eagles with five runs over the last two frames in a stunning 11-4 victory Friday night at the Hattiesburg Regional.
USM (44-15) will face second-seeded University of Alabama (41-17) at 2 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game.
Fourth-seeded Columbia (30-17) will take on third-seeded University of Miami (32-24) at 8 p.m. Saturday. The Hurricanes topped the Tide 5-3 in Friday’s first game.
Columbia outslugged USM, 16-5, as the Golden Eagles stumbled out of the gate at Pete Taylor Park.
