FARGO — In a scale of unlikely men’s division winners of the Essentia Health Fargo Marathon, Tucker Ringhand made a case for the No. 1 spot. Especially considering his Minnesota prep career at Crosby-Ironton High School.

His highest finish in the state cross country meet was 77th.

“I think I might have averaged my 5K high school pace today,” Ringhand said with a smile.

In his first marathon, almost less than one month after winning the 10,000 meters in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet, the senior at Michigan Tech may have discovered his running niche in life.

He ran it at the urging of Cley Twigg, his high school coach and current track and field coach at Crosby-Ironton. They talked about doing it in memory of others, like Twigg’s friend and Fargo Mara
