FARGO — When Erin Forde crossed the Essentia Health Fargo Marathon finish line the undisputed winner of the women’s division, it represented something new in the sports world on the grounds of the Fargodome: It is possible for Missoula to win in Fargo.

Well, sort of. It took a 2011 Fargo South graduate who moved to Montana a decade ago to do it.

“I know, the Bison are always beating up on the Griz but not always,” Forde said with a laugh. “The Griz have pulled out some good wins.”

That’s in reference to football, where North Dakota State has handled the University of Montana at the dome but not so much in Missoula. For Forde, it was a return to winning ways dating back to her days as a Bruin, when she was known as Erin Valenti.

She won the 800 meters in the North Dakota Class A outdoor
