AUSTIN, Texas — The Kingwood High School softball team is celebrating its first state title in school history after a 4-1 victory over Forney in the 6A Division II state championship.

The Mustangs, who narrowly missed advancing in the 2024 state semifinals, played like seasoned contenders.

Frei Pizzaro's RBI single set the stage in the second inning, followed by a decisive three-run third inning. Mia Gagliardi and Leilani Garcia exchanged places on an RBI double, and Hunter Quentel's two-run home run capped off the scoring drive.

Quentel, named MVP, delivered a complete game, four-hit performance with the poise of a veteran. Her teammates provided championship-level defense, highlighted by Addison Sheppard's exceptional play at shortstop.
