GORDON, Texas — The Gordon Longhorns are headed to the Conference 1A state championship game after defeating the Hamlin Pied Pipers 9-6 on Saturday evening.

Gordon (23-5) will face Fayetteville (18-4) in the title game. The Lions punched their ticket to the championship after a win over Brookeland in Friday night’s semifinal.

The Conference 1A state championship will be held at 9 a.m. on June 7 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

The Longhorns’ playoff run has come amid adversity. A tornado struck Gordon during the postseason, causing severe damage to the school and prompting the district to cancel classes for the remainder of the year.

Despite the destruction, the community rallied around the team, helping clear debris and repair damage while continuing to support the Longhorns’ pursuit
