AUSTIN, Texas — If there was any fear from dropping last season's state championship game, the Midway Pantherettes did not show it on Saturday.

Midway won the 6A D2 state title, 9-1, to claim their first softball state championship since 2010.

Sophomore pitcher Peyton Phillipp shined, throwing the a full gam, recording 11 strikeouts and only allowing one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, catcher Lilly Davis hit an RBI single to score Jayden Sadler to put the Pantherettes on the board first. An RBI single by Amaya Locke would give Midway a 2-0 lead after the first.

Clear Springs would as a running the top of the third, but the Pantherettes would still stay ahead 2-1.

The bottom of the third inning is when Midway’s bats would explode by putting up five runs, which all got started
