HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WLBT) - An eighth-inning comeback keeps No. 16 Southern Miss baseball’s season alive in the Hattiesburg Regional with a thrilling win over the SEC’s Alabama.

Yazoo City native and Ferriss Trophy winner JB Middleton got the start on the mound for the Golden Eagles in the elimination game.

Northwest Rankin grad and Sun Belt Player of the Year Nick Monistere hit a 2-run shot over the right field wall to give Southern Miss a 2-1 lead.

Alabama responded with a 2-run homer of their own to take a brief lead before USM’s Ben Higdon hit a solo home run over the center field wall to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning.

USM ace Middleton put up a pair of scoreless innings before getting a pop fly out with the bases juiced in the sixth inning to stay in the game
