East Carolina baseball will play an elimination game in the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates (34-26) lost to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (50-11) on Saturday night, 18-7.
Most of Saturday's game was competitive, with the first six innings featuring six lead changes. Ethan Young was pitching well enough out of the bullpen, and Austin Irby added another home run to keep up his hot streak.
But in the top of the seventh, it all unraveled for ECU. With a 5-4 lead, Young was removed from the game. From there, CCU loaded the bases and all of those runners came around on a grand slam. Two more runs came into score the same inning, and the Chanticleers added five in the top of the eighth to put it out of reach.
