Calgary police are investigating the death of a man who may have fallen from a high-rise balcony in Victoria Park early Sunday morning. Officers responded to reports of the incident in the 1100 block of 3rd St. S.E. around 5 a.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival, authorities found a man in medical distress. He was quickly transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The Calgary Police Service confirmed the details in a news release.
The circumstances surrounding the fall are still under investigation. Police have cordoned off the area, including a balcony at The Guardian residential tower, where the incident occurred. A red Chevrolet Impala parked on the street nearby was also taped off, as its roof was crushed, indicating the severity of the fall.
Currently, police have stated that there is no threat to public safety. However, road closures in the vicinity are expected to remain in effect for several hours as the homicide unit continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
