Several months after the adoption of Shenandoah County’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan, the Citizens Advisory Committee finds itself in new territory: not writing a plan, but trying to figure out what comes next.

During a meeting Wednesday, committee members unanimously approved a revised mission statement, formally outlining their role as an advisory body to both the Shenandoah County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors. The statement also commits the committee to reviewing the plan on a recurring basis, proposing revisions as needed and delivering an annual report assessing how well county actions align with the plan’s goals and strategies.

But the vote came only after extended discussion — and a degree of soul-searching — over what the committee’s function should truly be.
