The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two occupants from a plane that crashed into the Long Island Sound southeast of the Thimble Islands near Branford.

The “two people were in stable condition and were taken to Stony Creek Pier for EMS support,” according to a post by the U.S. Coast Guard on X .

In addition to the U.S. Coast Guard, the New Haven and Branford fire departments responded as well.

The crash happened six miles from Tweed Airport . The airport said on a Facebook post that the plane was a Piper Cherokee and confirmed that were two people on board.
