HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Michael Shanks was booked into the Forrest County Jail Sunday morning and charged with First Degree Murder.

Due to the arrest being on a weekend, Shanks has not had a bond hearing yet.

The Hattiesburg Police Department has been looking for Michael Shanks, 61, since a shooting that occurred on Friday.

At approximately 1:55 p.m., HPD said officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of East Ninth and Dewey streets.

Upon arrival, investigators determined that two males who were family members were involved in an altercation that escalated into gunfire.

One individual sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he later died from his injuries.
