CALDWELL, Texas (KBTX)—Burleson County Sheriff Gene Hermes has died after a battle with cancer, according to a statement released Saturday by the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said he died peacefully.

Hermes served with the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office for many years before being elected sheriff. He took office in March 2020 and was reelected in 2024.
He oversaw the expansion of the BCSO’s school resource officer program. His deputies were in Caldwell, Snook and Somoverville ISDs.
During his tenure as sheriff, Hermes prided himself on his open-door policy, saying that most Burelson County residents had his cell phone number.
