NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKEF) - Sunday would be a mixed day on the diamond for Wright State baseball, as the season ended in the championship round of the NCAA Nashville regional.
But the day began with one of the most notable wins in program history.
Facing an elimination game against the #1 overall seed Vanderbilt, the Raiders raced out to an early lead - as they had in games on Friday & Saturday. Boston Smith & Luke Arnold each hit home runs for the Raiders, who would then hang on for a 5-4 win to knock the Commodores out of the tournament. It's the first time in the current baseball championship format that the top overall seed failed to make a regional championship round.
That meant Wright State faced Louisville later Sunday, with the Raiders needing two wins to advance to Super Regi
